Chapter 2: Meeting Courage the Cowardly Dog

(Back in Chapter 1…)

“Geez, why did this have to happen?!” Eddy stated aloud with an irritated sigh afterwards as he and the other five young teens and the two adults started to walk on their way to the house in the distance.

“Who knows?” stated Jennifer with a shrug of her shoulders, “It was probably a low tire anyway.”

“Or maybe it was something else?” Ed started to say as everyone else looked at him, “Maybe it was something underground, like from the movie
When I Was a Teenage Vacuum!”

“…”

“I don’t think that would be it, Ed,” Kasumi replied back with a slight chuckle.

It would take them about ten minutes of walking to get to the house up ahead. But, little did they know that an adventure was waiting for them…

(And now, onto Chapter 2…)

Soon they could see the house in more detail than they could in the distance; it was a slightly large, wooden-built house with a windmill and a chicken house beside it. There was also an old truck outside and beside the house.

They soon walked up to the front door of the wooden house and knocked on the door. A few seconds later, an old man with a brown farmer’s cap, white t-shirt, khaki-colored overalls, black shoes and glasses comes and opens the door.

There was an awkward pause…

“We don’t want any!” said the man as he slammed the door on them.

“What the-- he just kicked us out!” Eddy said in a mad tone.

Bonk! “Oww!” exclaimed the man from inside the house, “What did I do?”

“Now Eustace, you know that it maybe someone asking for help,” said a Scottish-accented woman from inside the house as the door opens again to reveal a old woman with short, curly white hair, a beige t-shirt, a yellow dress that went to her knees, black boots and glasses. She also held a broken rolling pin in her right hand.

“I’m sorry about my husband. He usually does not like visitors,” she stated, “How can we help you?”

“One of our car’s tires somehow managed to go flat on us while we were driving,” Samuel stated to the woman, “We only need a phone and maybe a place to rest.”

“Why, of course you can use the phone,” said the woman with a smile as she stepped out of the doorway, “You can also stay here for as long as you like.”

“Thank you ma’am,” Kameko said as she, her husband and the six young teens came inside.

It looked to be a cozy place on the inside; there was a rocking chair, an end table and a very comfy-looking chair that was in the middle of the room. On the other side of the room, there was an old-looking TV set with antennas at the top; it was showing something in black and white, indicating that it was an old set. There was also a long couch on the other side of the wall next to the entrance to the kitchen and a staircase leading to a few rooms and the bathroom upstairs to their far right.

“You can all sit down on the couch if you like,” said the woman.

“Thank you again,” Double D said politely as the six teens soon trailed over to the couch and all flopped down onto it with exhaustion.

“Phew…” everyone stated with a huge sigh, “What a relief to get off my feet for a while,” Jennifer muttered.

“Yes, it does feel good,” Double D replied back; he looked to be the most exhausted of them all.

Meanwhile, Eliza noticed something out of the corner of her eye; a purple dog with random black spots on its back, was watching them on the corner of the couch, “Why hello there,” she said in a calm tone as she reached out to pet the little dog, but the little dog gasped and hid behind the couch, “W-Wait, I’m going to hurt you!” Eliza stated as she looked behind the couch to see the dog again.

“Eliza, who’re ya talking to?” Eddy questioned as he turned to her, only to see her looking behind the couch. Being curious, Eddy and the other four teens looked behind the couch to see what Eliza was looking at; the purple dog.

“… I know you’re not going to hurt me, but I have to be careful; just in case,” said a male voice from the dog as he came out from behind the couch to face them.

“It’s quite alright,” Eliza replied back to the dog, as if he were human, “A lot of animals are like that to me.”

(AN: If you guys remember, back in my story; The Aspie Girl, Eliza has the gift to talk to animals… and no, she’s not Eliza Thornberry.)

The purple dog widened his eyes, “Did… did you just understand what I just said?!” asked the dog as he made a little gasp, “Nobody has been able to understand me ever!”

“Yes, I understood you; clear as day,” Eliza replied; the others didn’t even bat an eyebrow at her actions. They knew about her weird talent.

They soon bent down towards the dog, “My name Eliza Charleston,” Eliza introduced as she then pointed to everyone else, “And this is Eddy, Jennifer, Double D, Ed and Kasumi; what is your name?”

“M-My name’s Courage,” said the dog as he scratched the back of his head nervously, “Wow, this is kind of weird; me talking and somebody understanding.”

“Yes, it is a bit strange, I admit…” Eliza replied.

“Say, what are you guys doing here out in the middle of Nowhere?” asked Courage, “It’s kind of rare to get you kind of visitors.”

“Well, our car made a flat tire near your house,” Eliza replied as she made a little sigh, “I guess Double D’s parents are decided if we need to stay here for the night or not.”

“Oh, alright, I see,” Courage stated as he made a slight chuckle at a thought, “I guess Muriel’s going to start cooking for you guys too.”

Eliza made a little laugh, “Why, is her cooking bad?”

“Oh, no; it’s really not,” Courage replied with a little wave of his arms in denial, “It’s just I can have more things than usual; that’s all.”

Eliza laughed a little again, “Alight.”

~~~~~~
Meanwhile, outside of the house, we could see a figure’s eyes peeking into a window of the living room part of the house. It was Katz, spying his eyes on Courage, “Finally, I can have my vengeance on you, Courage… Hmm?”
Katz then noticed something in the living room; it was a blond haired girl that seemed to be ‘talking’ with Courage. Katz arched an eyebrow at this little turn of events, “Who is that he’s talking to…?” he then made a smirk on his face, “It seems he has a new friend…”
Katz then starts to walk away from the window; that smirk still imprinted on his face, “Tonight, I will give Courage a night he will never forget.”
