Chapter 1: Getting Up in the Morning

It was a somewhat peaceful, quiet morning here in a small suburb outside New York City. It was in this neighborhood that we could see a slightly large house here around the other houses of the neighborhood… It is here in this house where we begin this story.

This house had an attic; and it was in this attic of the house where we could see could see a girl, sleeping in her room, which was located in the attic.

The girl was about the age of fourteen years old and had long, slightly wavy black hair that went to her hips. She was currently sleeping in her pajamas, sleeping in a peaceful sleep…

Ding, ding! Ding, ding!

The girl woke up with a little bit of a startled face when she heard the noise in her room, revealing her bright, grass green eyes. She then calmed down afterwards after finding out that it was only her alarm clock.

"Oh, it was just my alarm clock…" the teen girl muttered as she then reached over and turned off her alarm. It was then that she looked at what time it was; 7:15am. She blinked at it for a moment before…

"Waaa!!!" she yelped as she then hopped out of her bed in a rush, "I'm going to be late for the bus!"

She then rushed over to her closet and put on her clothes in a quick manner. Instead of her pajamas, she now wore a thick strapped, crimson red tank top that had a dark, white Hawaiian-like flower pattern going down the right side of her shirt in a vertical line. She then puts on her blue jean carpenter pants that went to her knees, and finally her blue tennis shoes afterwards.

Meanwhile, with her family downstairs, her mother and father were both sitting at the table, eating their breakfast. The teen girl's mother only made a sigh when she heard all of the commotion in the attic, "It seems she finally woke up," he stated to her husband.

"Yeah, so I've heard," he replied back as he went back into reading his newspaper.

Soon the two of them could hear their daughter's footsteps coming down the attic stairs, then down the second story stairs. They soon saw her coming into the kitchen, where she then grabbed her a little bit of food from the counter and then rushed towards the front door on the other side of the house, "Bye mom, bye dad!" she stated as she went by them.

"Bye Edna," her father stated.

"Have a good day, sweetie!" her mother then stated as their daughter Edna soon walked through the front door and went outside to catch the bus in time…

Edna was running, running as fast as she could to get to get to her bus stop before the school bus got there. She soon got there, and just in time too; the school buses other riders were still there, indicating that the bus had not come yet. There were only four other people standing there when Edna got there; two of them were her friends.

One of Edna's friends was a girl that looked to be the age of fourteen. She had short, boyish-like dark red hair. She wore a white tank top underneath a short sleeved, denim-like lavender vest. She also wore a pair of knee length, beige carpenter pants and black, lavender and white tennis shoes. Her name was Alice Zimmerman.

Edna's other friend there was also fourteen. She had long, strawberry blond hair that went to her shoulder blades and had bright, sky blue eyes. She wore a dark blue shirt that went to her waist while the sleeves of the shirt went to her elbows. She wore a pair of white colored carpenter pants that went to her ankles and covered up most of her tan and white tennis shoes. Her name was Grace Livingston.

The other two there were the three friend's neighbors; Katherine Harlem and Victoria Floras.

"Oh, hiya Edna!" greeted Grace as she and Alice noticed their friend coming up behind them, almost out of breath from all of the running, "You finally made it this time; good for you!" congratulated Alice with a bit of a kidding smirk and sarcasm.

"Oh… be quiet -- Alice," wheezed out Edna as she then regained her whole breath and regular posture.

Katherine and Victoria only rolled their eyes at the three; they did not like the three girls very much.

Soon the five teen girls noticed the school bus coming to them from their left side. And when the bus came to them and came to a complete stop, the five girls stepped onto it and sat down in their usual spots. The bus then started to roll away from their neighborhood as it headed towards the nearest neighborhood.

And when the school bus stopped at the neighborhood, the kids at that bus stop then got onto the bus. It was a total of five kids in this neighborhood; all of them were teenage boys.

The first teen boy to come onto the bus was fourteen years old. He had short, slightly shaggy dark blond hair and had dark, ice blue eyes. He wore a hunter green t-shirt that went to his waist. He wore a pair of tan colored carpenter pants that went to his ankles and covered up most of his tan and white sneakers. His name was Donald Tavern.

The second teen boy to come onto the bus was also fourteen years old. He had short, slightly shaggy brown hair and had dark, chocolate brown eyes. He wore a dark yellow t-shirt that went to his waist. He wore a pair of white colored carpenter pants that went to his ankles and covered up most of his tan and white sneakers. His name was Max Ingram.

The third teen boy to come onto the bus was fourteen years old. He had short, slightly shaggy midnight black hair and had dark, grass green eyes. He wore a navy blue t-shirt that went to his waist. He wore a pair of black colored carpenter pants that went to his ankles and covered up most of his tan and white sneakers. His name was Greg Barnes.

The two other boys that came onto the bus were the three boy's other neighbors; Rick Owens and Chris Alexander.

The five teen boys then sat down in their usual places on the bus, with Rick and Chris sitting next to Katherine and Victoria; and Donald, Max and Greg all sat together in the back by themselves. Edna, Alice and Grace, in the meantime, only glanced at the three boys as they sat in the back, sighing a little as they did.

"Geez, when do think they'll ever notice us?" Alice questioned a little as she crossed her arms across her chest.

"Only time will tell, Alice," Edna replied to her friend.

'I hope it'll be soon though…' Grace thought with a sigh.
Uninteresting chapter is uninteresting. :B

Okay, here's my start for NaNoWriMo! :dummy:

Word Count in Chapter: 1,170
Total: 1,170

Edit: I changed the title, because I just realized that the Smithsonian does not have that many famous paintings I can use for this story... So, there's a title change because of this. :B

Edit #2: ... I changed locations. :lmao:

~squeaken1 recommended I take a look at your story, and I finally found the time to get a look into it. I have a couple suggestions.

1) Try and approach the descriptions of the characters a little more modestly, I guess you can say. Don't just blurt things out, let the characters progress. Don't even blurt their name out right away either, let it come out slower.

2) More detail with setting. Settings can get a reader hooked on the details. And don't blurt out directly where the setting is, let it come naturally.

3) Try and have a bit more emotion and senses in the story. You want to try and make the reader feel like they are there.

Well, those are all the suggestions I have :) These are things I tell myself all the time. Other than that, the story seems interesting.
